In restaurants, do you ever avoid a food because it is a bit too messy (think ribs) or is a bit difficult to cut (think steak or other meat on a bone)?
Yeah. I avoid chicken on the bone if its barbecued or if I know it has some kind of sauce on it. Ribs are another story, depending on where I am. Some places are really casual, (I'm thinking now of a chain called Texas Road House where they serve peanuts, and there are shells on the floor.) In places like the above, I figure things are gonna get messy anyway, so why not me along with it. If I know steak has the bone, I may or may not avoid it, depending on how adventurous I feel at any given moment in time. It also depends on what I'm doing after I eat. If I'm going home, I might not care about "wearing" my food as much as if I were at a lunch at work, and had to return to the office.
It really depends on the situation. If it's a casual/family or friends type of dine out I don't care if I eat with my hands so ribs/wings etc are totally a fair game. Also I just ask a waiter, a friend of my fiance (nowadays) to cut steak if it has bone in it and seems particularly hard to cut. If it's more of a business lunch / dinner or something formal, yes, I would order the filet or some food that is already pre cut (pasta e.g. for Italian restaurants generally is already cut up for you) or fish/seafood (as long as you don't have to craack open the lobster or crab legs). Salmon e.g. is very flaky and easy to cut and totally yummie too.
No I wire in and enjoy life is not a rehearsal...and very rarely do I wear my food.
I avoid peas. They make me gag.
peas are delicous with mint and parma ham.
I'll eat just about anything, although I do get a bit embarrassed in public because handling a knife and fork is still a challenge for me.
